restaurant city design compo

we pride ourselves on squeezing every last gourmet point of out of our staff before they collapse from exhaustion! This guide will show you how to build efficient and effective restaurant layouts to maximize your bottom line!

Note: This guide only covers single "island" layouts, which are easier to build but not as efficient as multiple island layouts. If you're feeling adventurous (or you are "hardcore") and don't mind a bit of extra work, go check out my Guide to Multiple Island Layouts.

Basic Strategies

1. Don't make your waiters walk
The less your waiter walks, the more time he spends serving and the less time he spends getting there.

2. Too many tables!
Resist the urge to add as many tables as you can afford. If you have too many tables and not enough cooks, you won't get the food out fast enough! I find that you should only offer 3 tables for each cook you have.

3. Center your stoves
Keep your stoves centered. A food order from any table can go to any stove. Don't keep all your stoves clustered in one area.

4. Use corners
Your waiter can service in all 8 directions, so use corners as much as possible to give him the most reach.

5. Box waiters in
Form a complete square or rectangle using your tables to trap the waiters in. This way, they don't wander around needlessly to serve food.

6. Avoid the walls
Don't set your tables and chairs against a wall or the grass:

Customers aren't very courteous and they refuse to scoot in! The 3 empty seats shown above will always remain empty because the two customers block them off.

Advanced Strategies

7. Count steps
A good, quick rule of thumb to judge a layout's efficiency is to ask yourself: how many steps maximum do my waiters have to take?

Both these layouts have the same number of tables and stoves, but one is more efficient! Which one?

The answer is the first one, because waiters only have to travel a maximum of 2 steps. In the second one, waiters have to travel a maximum of 3.

8. Avoid diagonals
Look closely at your waiters' speed, you can actually see that they move slower diagonally! It takes1.4 times longer to cross a tile diagonally than to cross it up, down, left, or right (but it is still faster than going through 2 tiles!). Whenever possible, within reason, try to remove diagonals from your waiters' path.

9. A Note on "Island" Layouts
You'll sometimes see restaurants that have two or more "islands", each island having their own cooks and waiters, like this one:

These islands are very effective, because smaller designs (with less cooks and tables) are much more efficient than bigger, bulkier designs. However, they're also more difficult to create. I've written a Guide to Island Layouts, but this guide will focus strictly on traditional designs since these are easier.

Recommended Layouts

All right, enough talk, here are my recommended layouts!

2 Cooks, 1 Waiter

3 Cooks, 1 Waiter
(Special thanks to Orphaen)

3 Cooks, 2 Waiters
Keep the same layout as above (3 Cooks, 1 Waiter), because you'll need more cooks to handle more tables.

4 Cooks, 2 Waiters

5 Cooks, 2 Waiters

What to do when you have 8 staff
Congratulations, you now have a full staff! If you've come this far, you should really consider using island layouts instead, since it's hard to make an efficient 8 staff "traditional" layout. Check out my guide on Island Layouts.

BEGGINER:

Dont waste your money in decoration when you start, dont buy floor and expensive chairs, tables or stooves*. (I made those mistakes that's why u must avoid it)

*CHEAP AND EXPENSIVE CHAIRS, TABLES & STOOVES:
Dont buy expensive ones! they are the same with another design, if u think ppl are more comfortable with luxury chairs/tables ur wrong.. its the same a chair of 150$ than 1 of 1400$!
Same with stooves! The 200$ Stoove works equal than the 4000$ they has just a different decoration for your design..

So, Buy things that you really need.

Put the tables near the stooves, dont make the waitres walk too much and you will earn points and cash faster!

Make people walk a lot before they reach chair, thats a huge adventage for you, the waitres has more time to serve other persons and clean the table too. Dont waste money in expensive mazes.. make it with trophies ,mailbox and junk too

This is the calculation of all the ingredients you will need to get all the dishes to lvl 10

Cheese x 90
Flour x 80
Potato x 80
Cream x 70
Egg x 70
Salad x 70

Restaurant City cheat

ADVANCE:

Expand the tables after geting the 8th employer

Now u've more space.. Make the maze bigger!

Now we are lvl 17. What shall we do?
Make an island as well, the best and fastest way to get points and cash

What do i mean with islands?
Here you have a tutorial about islands:
http://forum.playfish.com/showthread...ghlight=island

Remember, dont waste money in decoration and designs before reaching lvl 20.. use that money to get points faster.. example, dont make your emplyer rest, give him/her water when he/she is 75% and you will have a lot of popularity points too.

Why I dont grow points? I want to level up!:

Your gourmet points (the points you need to level up) go up faster if you open your interior page (restaurant city game opened). If you go outside or close the game, you get money but your points doesnt go up.

My points are growing so slow.. Why?

Because you need lvl 10 dishes!

1 of each.. (Starter, Main, Dessert)

Example: if you have a lvl 1 starter dish, lvl 10 main dish, lvl 1 dessert dish
when the costumer eats a starter u receive low points, when the costumer eats the main (lvl 10) you obtain 3ple points (2.8 l 3..)

So, you need 3 dishes in lvl 10 and then you will lvl up faster!

restaurant city popularity

Many people think that arcades somehow make their restaurant more efficient. I am here to explain why this is not true. The following is admittedly a wall of text more apt for a paper, but I suggest you read the text when you have time.

The mechanics of RC popularity is poorly understood. But simply put, popularity is a measure of efficiency. Because different restaurants have complex mechanics, we will picture a simplified ideal restaurant for a simpler understanding of the matter.

Popularity achieves a state of equilibrium depending on the efficiency of the restaurant. For every satisfied paying customer, 0.1 popularity is gained. On the other hand, every unsatisfied customer decreases popularity by 0.1. For every restaurant, there is a maximum capacity determined by the layout. That is, all restaurants have only a certain number of customers it can serve over a fixed amount of time. The ideal scenario is the case where whenever a customer orders a meal, the waiters can serve it instantly, consuming only 15 seconds preparation time to serve each customer. With 6 chefs cooking 1 meal each every 15 seconds, this gives us 24 customers served per minute. This is equivalent to 24 thumbs up per minute, which then gives our restaurant a 2.4 popularity gain per minute. Thus, if there were no unsatisfied customers, the popularity would increase until it reaches the 50.0 popularity cap.

However, unsatisfied customers are inevitable. Popularity increases the number of people going inside the restaurant, and there will come a time that more than 24 people per minute will go inside the restaurant. First, 25 people per minute will enter. No matter what we do, that extra customer cannot be served. Thus he will leave, and give a negative point. This will give us a net gain of 2.3 popularity per minute, but this is still a positive value and will still increase our popularity. As popularity increases, there will come a time that the popularity is high enough so that 48 people will enter the restaurant per minute. 24 of them can never be served, and thus will leave giving us -2.4 popularity per minute. At this time, the number of thumbs up and thumbs downs are equal and thus the net popularity gain is 0. The popularity rating will remain steady, and this will be our equilibrium point. The popularity rating at which this occurs is the equilibrium popularity, which is the popularity at which satisfied and unsatisfied customers per minute are equal.

(This is where I state the logic for letting us have more employees! We do deserve them. )

More efficient restaurants can serve more customers per minute so their equilibrium popularity is higher. Sometimes the restaurant is efficient enough to be worth more than 50.0 popularity, meaning at 50.0 popularity, more customers get served than leave unsatisfied. This leaves the net popularity gain per minute a positive value, but because there is a cap, no gain in popularity occurs and no extra customers enter per minute. This is why I think the 50.0 cap is pointless, as there is still a maximum number of customers 8 employees can serve. Only when the number of employees are unlimited will a popularity cap make sense. This can also serve as a reason as why we should be free to hire as many employees as we want: the maximum amount of customers we can serve is determined by how many customers enter the restaurant anyway and so it shouldn’t matter if we use 20 employees serving them or if we use only 8. Nevertheless, this is a separate issue which isn’t directly related to the issue at hand.

More often than not, for low-level restaurants and inefficient restaurants, the equilibrium point is achieved before the 50.0 popularity rating is reached. But people want to achieve 50.0 popularity no matter what, and so resort to using arcades.

Solnaga's level 5 restaurant. You can see that with the addition of arcades, the popularity rating of his level 5 restaurant has increased and reached the 50.0 popularity rating cap. Although he has lots of customers inside, he can still serve at most 4 customers per minute, and has not improved his GP or EXP earning capacity. http://forum.playfish.com/showthread.php?p=20447718

Arcades raise the equilibrium point by preventing customers who cannot be served from giving a thumbs down. In a restaurant which is already at equilibrium, each arcade added will decrease the number of thumb-downs per minute. Let us say that an arcade takes 15 seconds as well for a customer to finish before leaving. This gives us up to 4 unsatisfied customers per minute per arcade who are prevented from giving a negative rating. At our current popularity if we add 1 arcade, that means that 24 customers will get served, giving 2.4 popularity per minute, 20 people will leave while giving -2.0 popularity and 4 people will use the arcade and leave without a rating. This gives us a net of 0.4 popularity gain per minute, and thus will increase the popularity. This will go on until such a time that the popularity is high enough so that 52 customers enter the restaurant per minute, with 24 being served and giving 2.4 popularity per minute, 24 people leave and give -2.4 popularity per minute and 4 people leave after using the arcade. At this time, a new equilibrium popularity is reached. As seen from this example, arcades increase the number of customers coming to the restaurant, but do not affect the rate at which they are successfully served. In our example restaurant, only 24 people per minute can be served, no matter how many arcades we have. It is therefore evident that even though arcades can increase the popularity of a restaurant, it does nothing to increase the rate at which the restaurant earns money and GP, which is solely determined by the number of customers served by minute, and not the total number of customers going inside the restaurant per minute.

In summary, even though arcades can make a restaurant’s popularity go up, it does not increase the rate at which customers get served, which is the sole thing that determines the rate of Exp or GP gain. It is worthy to note that popularity can only be seen by you, and not by any visitor, and so it is pointless to have 50.0 pop with the use of arcades if your concern is to make your restaurant ‘efficient’ or to earn money and exp faster. If you are new to the game and would like to level or gain money faster, arcades are not a solution. But if you like the way it looks in your restaurant or if you like seeing the number 50.0, then by all means use it.

Gameplay Preview

1. How do I buy and plant seeds?

Firstly, click on the seed icon on the bottom right of your screen.

Click View Shop to see what you can buy.

After buying the seeds, they will be available in your inventory. Click on the seed you want to

plant.

After choosing the seed, the seed icon will now change to your chosen seed. Click on ploughed

plots to start planting them.

You can check how long until you can harvest your crops at any time by selecting the white

arrow icon and hovering over the crop, this will also tell you which crop it is!

You unlock new crops as you level up.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. How do I water my crops?

To water your crops, first select the blue watering can icon. To fill your watering can, select the

well towards the top left corner of your farm. Then select the plots that you wish to water by

clicking on them one at a time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. What are animals (chicken, sheep, and cow) for?

The animals give produce which can help you earn additional income, chickens will given you

eggs, sheep will give you wool and cows will give milk.

When you have an animal you will notice it will have a timer. The initial timer is the time until

your animal is full grown and hence capable of producing eggs/wool/milk, the timers after this

point is how long until the next produce is ready for you to collect.

You will need to feed your animals regularly to keep them growing/producing. If you feed them

fully, the food should last for 22 hours until you need to feed them again. Chickens eat Chicken

Wheat, and Sheep and Cows eat Grass.

Chicken Wheat and Grass are crops that if you just grow to sell, you will not make profit from, so

you should grow them primarily to feed your animals!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. What are sticks and stones for?

Sticks and Stones are used to build/upgrade your animals housing and other farm structure,

they are also used in some quests.

You will be able to collect a total of 5 sticks and/or stones from each friend’s farm each day.

When visiting a friend’s farm simply click sticks or stones to pick them up! The sticks and stones

reset each day at midnight GMT.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. How do I earn coins?

You can earn coins by selling harvested crops and animal produce, and completing quests. You

can find your crops and produce that you can sell in your ‘storage’ section.

You can also earn some random coins when ploughing plots and watering crops.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. How do I earn experience points?

From the Knowledge Base:

Experience points are earned by doing various tasks around the farm, ranging from plowing the

soil, planting seeds, watering crops and harvesting crops.

You can also gain experience points from helping out other players on their farms and by

completing quests.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7. What is the stamina bar for and how do I replenish stamina?

From the Knowledge Base:

The stamina bar shows how much stamina you have left - when you do work on your farm or

other players farms, you lose stamina. Once the stamina has completely depleted, you will no

longer be able to work - and therefore must wait until it replenishes itself again. It takes about 6

hours to replenish stamina without food.

You can buy food at the market in order to replenish stamina more quickly, and do more work

on the farm. The cost of the food varies, as does the amount of stamina that particular food

replenishes.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8. What are friendship points and how do they work?

From the Knowledge Base:

Friend points indicate how friendly you are with a friend. Friend points are used when you ask a

friend to help you look after your crop.

Click on the friendship icon to view your friend points.

Friend points increase when you give a present that is more than 100 coins to a friend. Take

note that anything less than 100 will not be noticeable. In addition, the maximum number of

friend points can only increase by 10 per day per friend. There will be no further increase even if

you give more presents.

For every gift that’s worth 100 coins, you get 1 friend point. The points can be used to ensure

your crops are looked after by that particular friend, and this stops other friends from stealing

from you!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9. What is the weather system (sunshine, clouds and bars) all about?

This indicates whether it is day or night and also displays the weather. Once the little bars

surrounding the weather is filled up, it will change from either day to night or night to day. Day

and night changes are approximately one hour.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10. Can I move plots I’ve ploughed, decorations or animals?

You are not able to moved ploughed plots.

You can move your decorations and animals. To move your decorations, select ‘Decorate’ and

then click and drag any decoration to the new location you want it. To move your animals open

your storage, select your animals tab, and then it should allow you to click and drag your animals

to a new location.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

11. What do the different fertilizers do?

Fertilizers will reduce the growing time of your plants. Right now you can only buy them with

Playfish Cash, and receiving them from quests, don’t know if they will add it for coins in the

future or if it will stay this way.

You can find out how much time they reduce by clicking on them in the store fertilizer tab.

Level 1 Fertilizer : 2 Playfish Cash reduces grow time by 4 hrs

Level 2 Fertilizer : 4 Playfish Cash reduces grow time by 9 hrs

Level 3 Fertilizer : 6 Playfish Cash reduces grow time by 14 hrs

Level 4 Fertilizer : 8 Playfish Cash cash reduces grow time by 19 hrs

Level 5 Fertilizer : 10 Playfish Cash reduces grow time by 24 hrs

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

12. What is stealing and how does it work?

Stealing, is when you go to a friend’s farm, or a friend comes to your farm, and uses the black

glove to take some of the fully grown crops.

Initially, you have up to 5 grabs from each friend, and each grab can take 2 fruit/vegetables.

Once you gain your stealing trophy, your available grabs will increase. Your amount of grabs

available each day resets at midnight GMT.

As you are taking crops from your friend, this reduces what they are able to harvest, so there is

a maximum amount that can be stolen from each fully grown crop. Once this maximum is

reached, if you try and steal from that crop, you will receive a message letting you know that you

need to leave some for the owner.

Also, if they have assigned a friend to look after a particular crop, you will not be able to take

anything from that crop. If you try you will receive a message letting you know that that crop

belongs to a friend.

You can use your friendship points to assign friends to look after your crops to protect them if

you wish. Also, once you have a dog, the dog will also assist in protecting your crops.

Please remember that some people may not be keen about participating in this feature, so think

before you swipe!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13. I’m having issues loading Country Story, what should I do?

Make sure you have the latest version of flash installed. You can check what version you

currently have here: http://playerversion.com . And can download the latest version from the

Adobe website: http://www.adobe.com .
