WASHINGTON, KOMPAS.com - Tak lama setelah aplikasi UberTwitter diblokir Twitter, Sabtu (19/2/2011), Uber Media selaku perusahaan yang mengembangkannya segera mengubah nama aplikasi tersebut menjadi UberSocial. Dengan menanggalkan nama Twitter sebagai nama aplikasi, UberMedia berharap Twitter segera mengaktifkan lagi aplikasi-aplikasi buatannya.
"Kami telah mengganti nama #UberTwitter menjadi UberSocial. Anda dapat menjumpai kami di @UberSoc," demikian pesan di akun Twitter @UberTwitter yang kini menjadi @UberSoc. Ditambahkan bahwa perubahan nama tersebut sebagai upaya menjaga hubungan baik dengan Twitter.
Sebelumnya, Bill Gross, Founder dan CEO UberMedia, perusahaan yang menggawangi UberTwitter mengatakan bahwa nama UberTwitter adalah salah satu keberatan yang dilayangkan Twitter sebagai alasan untuk menutup akses ke aplikasi tersebut. Selain nama, Twitter juga melarang layanan pemanjang tweet yang selama ini disediakan UberTwitter serta pengubahan link yang menjadi bagian afiliasi di UberCurrrent.
"Twitter juga sudah menyatakan kepada kami bahwa begitu kami lakukan perubahan, mereka akan mengembalikan akses kami ke API mereka. Semua perubahan telah kami lakukan dan Twitter sudah kami beritahu, dan kami menunggu sampai aplikasi tersebut dipulihkan kembali," jelas Bill Gross di layanan tanya jawab online Quora.com.
UberTwitter yang kini menjadi UberSocial adalah salah satu aplikasi untuk mengakses Twitter di bawah bendera UberMedia. Selain UberSocial, ada Twidroyd, Echofon, dan UberCurrent. Bahkan dikabarkan UberMedia telah membeli Tweetdeck, aplikasi Twitter untuk dekstop komputer yang sangat populer.
